COMPANY PROFILE

Karen Pettigrew established K&K Structures Ltd in mid-2012.  Our company philosophy is to provide quality structural engineering design services, with well co-ordinated documentation and strong attention to detail.  Our commercial office is based in Epsom, Auckland.

We structure our projects so that we do not over-commit to work beyond what we can knowingly service, whilst still providing a degree of care and commitment that we pride ourselves on. We have two full time structural engineers, and a draftsman, and we rely on contract drafts-people for projects requiring any significant drafting involvement. We have a core team of very experienced contract drafts-people which we can routinely call upon.

Our focus is primarily on commercial, educational, retirement, healthcare and car-parking structures, along with high-end residential building design.  We enjoy the challenge of matching engineering structure to quality architecture.  Karen has a track record of working with a number of the major architectural practices in Auckland.

Karen has 30 years extensive experience in modelling multi-storey structures using ETABS, and we operate the latest version of this three-dimensional seismic modelling software.

The seismic events in Christchurch have given rise to industry recommendations on building performance under earthquake load.  Consideration of lateral load resisting elements early in the design is important to ensure that the building complies with the latest SESOC and Royal Commission of Enquiry recommendations, whilst still respecting the architectural intent.  We work closely with your selected Architect to create a robust, yet efficient seismic system for any multi storey building the we design.

Over the last few years k&k structures ltd has designed several multi-storey school buildings and retirement village apartments blocks:

Sacred Heart College Br Fergus Science Centre

St Joseph’s Otahuhu Classroom Block

Northbridge Lifecare Trusts - Block 1, 2 & 3 (six buildings total)

Bethesda Village Apartments

Selwyn Foundation - Selwyn Oaks Building S01 Papakura

All of our structures are 3D modeled in Revit.

High End Architecture sometimes requires lateral thinking, where the engineer also needs to consider construction methodology along with cost minimisation.

At k&k structures ltd we take pride in delivering a robust structural engineering solution for each unique project, together with a separate structural set of drawings. During on-site construction the contractors greatly appreciate having a separate and concise set of structural drawings.
